Original artwork description:

“Through The Hill” is an acrylic painting on canvas. It is 90x90 cms stretched over a custom made frame with steel corner braces. ‘Through The Hill’ is part of a series of paintings developed from landscape studies made in Cumbria U.K. The revisited locations capture memories of time and place in a non-literal manner. Grasmere, Buttermere, Crummockwater , Hawkshead and the Borrowdale valley are locations that are particularly inspirational, but instead of working through a process that leads to a literal appearance or likeness I work from memory using expressive brushstrokes to suggest ideas and emotions connected to memories of such places. Ideally the paintings are likened to memorials. Open images capturing the joy of light in open spaces. I take inspiration from great modernists and colourists. Barbara Rae, Howard Hodgkin, John Hoyland are constant sources of reference together with the Impressionists and Fauvists.

Acrylic paint and dyes on canvas
