The Isle of Skye like the land of the Snow Maiden, is a place where magic happens. In Winter, when the sun shines and the air is cold and clear, we get huge snow clouds. They fly quickly across the island towards the West and the Highlands of Scotland with drifts of snow falling as they go. Like a curtain of soft lace across a window, the snow falls silently. When the sun hits these beautiful giants, they turn gold and bronze.

This image of a huge snow cloud over the small island of Rona in the far north of Scotland brings light and drama to the stage. Golden tones as the sun hits the top of the cloud and the calm sea below. The image was made on the top of the cliff at the north end of the Isle of Skye, a few seconds and it was gone.

Printed on beautifully Canson Aquarelle paper guaranteed not to fade for over a hundred years.

My work is all about the emotional connection we have to a place and the moment in our memory when we felt such intense pleasure looking at a landscape. I am driven to capture the essence of a place with my camera, working mainly with the colours and shapes I see when I half close my eyes. I travel to remote islands, to places steeped in history, unspoilt beaches and wild rocky coastlines where I love to work in quiet solitude.

I love printing and have long been obsessed with the materials I use. I love to work with fine art canvas and papers that are made for museum quality artworks.
