Original artwork description:

The recovered olive tree from Cervera del Maestre. It is approximately 1,100 to 1,200 years old. This tree was abandoned for many years however is now has recovered.
This olive tree is located on top of a small hill, overlooking the village and the medieval castle of Cervera del Maestre. The origin of this olive tree coincides (10th century) with the era of the Muslim rule which explains its cultural and historical value, given that from its privileged position it has seen the passing of all civilizations. (Mancomunitat Taula del Sénia)
It is believed that the Phoenicians first introduced the olive tree to Iberia (in the region of what is now Spain) in 1050 BC. The intrinsic characteristics of the FARGA variety, the climate and the terrain are conducive to the long life of these olive trees, which have been able to adapt perfectly to the environment.

A beautiful and expressive ink drawing overlaid with chalk and charcoal.
A fresh and loosely painted ink study of an ancient olive tree in Spain.

Signed on the front Wain 2024
