Family of Three (2023) Original Oil Painting by Ryan Louder

A large oil painting on canvas, 122 by 152 centimetres, of a family of three standing close together. The figures are simplified and slightly stretched, the way people look in dreams, and the mood is tender rather than sweet - they hold each other like they know how easily that can slip.

Family groups like this surface often in my work. I have narcolepsy with REM intrusion, diagnosed at Guy's Hospital in London - dream imagery appears to me while I am awake, and figures like these walk straight out of that state onto the canvas. I don't sketch first; the family was simply there after the first strokes.

I have painted over 2,000 works and sold more than 1,000 originals. Because of its size this painting ships rolled in a protective tube and can be easily restretched by any framer. Tracked courier, and I am always happy to answer questions.
