Inspired by the beach of Benidorm, where you can encounter remarkably colorful characters, I created this painting. Against the recognizable silhouette of the island, a woman with green hair and tattooed skin rests under the Mediterranean sun. Her long yellow nails, striking appearance, and full figure immediately attract attention. However, my interest is not in portraying a specific individual, but in exploring the contemporary beach as a place where people temporarily leave behind their everyday social roles and are left alone with their own bodies.

I painted this work in an expressive manner, using bold fields of yellow and violet to evoke the intense light of the Mediterranean. At the same time, the seemingly spontaneous painted surface is unexpectedly organized by a series of evenly spaced circles. They introduce rhythm and structure, creating a contrast between the spontaneity of the brushwork and a sense of strict order.

There is irony in this work, but it is not directed at the woman herself. Rather, it is an ironic reflection on contemporary beach culture, where the body becomes the primary means of self-expression.

I used fluid acrylic and oil paints to create this work.

Materials used:

acrylic, oil on canvas
