Storm Clouds, Bamburgh Castle (2025) Monoprint by Rebecca Vincent

I was drawn to the dramatic atmosphere gathering around Bamburgh Castle, with storm clouds creating a striking contrast against the quiet coastline. Working with layers of translucent ink allowed me to build depth and powerful swirling marks in the sky and water, while the castle remains a strong focal point within the composition. I wanted to capture the changing mood of the Northumberland coast just before the storm arrives, balancing the sense of drama in the sky with the enduring stillness of the historic coastline.

A monotype is a one-off hand-made print, just as unique as a painting. I used rollers and dabbers to spread out ink on a smooth plastic board then made marks with a cloth and other tools. The ink was transferred to the paper using a hand-operated printing press. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing several times.

The paper is 75 x 37cm with a working margin to be covered with a window mount. The viewable image will then be 74 x 34cm

Supplied unmounted/unframed, rolled in a wide, strong tube. (Framed images are shown for scale and context only - frame not included.)
