Artist Statement & Description
"Storm and Fight" is a powerful visual narrative that explores the eternal struggle between human resilience and the raw forces of nature. In this piece, Félix Rubio moves beyond traditional painting to "sculpt" with oil, creating a work that is as much a physical relief as it is a visual experience.

The Technique: Using an extreme impasto technique applied exclusively with a palette knife, Rubio creates a high-relief texture that gives the ocean a visceral sense of movement. The thick ridges of paint capture and reflect light, causing the painting to change character depending on the angle of illumination.

Color Theory: The composition is built upon a dramatic complementary contrast. The deep ultramarine and teal hues of the turbulent sea collide with the explosive oranges and radiant yellows of a sun breaking through the mist. This chromatic tension perfectly encapsulates the "Fight" referenced in the title.

Compositional Focus: The 74x74 cm square format creates a focused, intense atmosphere. The central light source acts as a beacon of hope, with vertical strokes that slice through the horizon, contrasting against the chaotic, horizontal energy of the crashing waves. At the heart of this elemental battle, a solitary vessel stands as a symbol of endurance.

Artistic Analysis
Félix Rubio demonstrates a masterful command of Modern Expressionism. His ability to translate the weight of water and the blinding brilliance of a storm-swept sky into tangible layers of paint marks him as a distinctive voice in contemporary maritime art. The work does not just depict a scene; it invites the viewer to feel the salt spray and the vibrating energy of the gale.

Materials used:

Professional Grade Oils, Acrylics, and Acrylic Modeling Paste on stretched canvas. This mixed media approach combines the fast-drying structural properties of acrylic paste with the rich, luminous finish of oils.
