Rue de l'Université (2025) Original Mixed-media Painting by Juliart

21 x 42cm (unframed)

£328.23

"Rue de l'Université" came to life from my fascination with Paris - specifically that iconic street where the timeless architecture of the city perfectly frames the distant silhouette of the Eiffel Tower. What inspired me was the mood of an atmospheric, misty Parisian day, where light and shadow dance along the bistro awnings and cobblestones. This piece is particularly special to me because of how the mediums interact: I used traditional Japanese ink to construct the raw, structural movement of the city, but intertwined it with white tempera. The tempera acts as a source of light, capturing the chalky, elegant texture of Parisian stone and the hazy air of the sky. It is a deeply personal bridge between a classic European urban landscape and the expressive, soulful freedom of monochrome art.

Materials used:

japanese ink, tempera, water, paper
