Rooftops That Remember is a contemporary architectural painting from the Architecture of Memory series, exploring how a city can survive in memory through fragments of structure, darkness and light.
Dark architectural forms rise and overlap across the composition, their boundaries partially dissolving into deep black, blue and turquoise. Rather than describing the buildings in precise detail, the painting allows them to emerge gradually from the surrounding darkness.
Warm yellow and golden light appears through windows and openings, creating a strong contrast with the cool blue architecture. These illuminated fragments become points of presence within an otherwise uncertain space — small signs of life held inside the larger structure of the city.
Expressive brushwork, vertical drips and exposed areas of dark ground disrupt the solidity of the buildings. Walls and rooftops remain recognizable, but their forms shift between architecture and abstraction, as if the city were being reconstructed from incomplete visual memory.
