Mostly I paint people with a motor vehicle setting. Often the car is absent. It's the things people do with and around old cars. They sit and wait, or tinker and adjust in my pictures. And what of the destination? What happens when you arrive at the place you drove to. In this picture I like the careful act of looking through the twin lens reflex camera. It's a picture about making a picture. A modern gaze reads it as taking a selfie but of course the couple are looking not at themselves. The pipe smoking gent is also something next to obsolete...soon people wont exactly understand what that was all about either....
