The original artwork “ORANGUTAN #4” is a contemporary painting on 80 x 100 cm canvas created in intense neon and contrasting colors.

This work was created as part of the series HOMINIDEA / “EARTH SONG”.
The series is a critical reflection on the destruction of nature, the exploitation of the planet, and the ongoing climate crisis.

The gaze of the orangutan feels deeply human — vulnerable, exhausted, and hauntingly direct. Within its eyes lies a quiet urgency, confronting the viewer with empathy and responsibility. The expressive palette of glowing orange, pink, black, and white evokes burning forests, heat, and an ecosystem falling out of balance. At the same time, the layered brushwork creates emotional depth between hope and loss.

The orangutan is not portrayed as a distant wild animal, but as a sentient counterpart. Its expression appears reflective, questioning, almost accusatory. Fragmented lyrics from the song Earth Song by Michael Jackson appear throughout the painting:

“What about apathy?
What about us?
I need you.”

These lyrical fragments intensify the emotional impact of the work and transform the painting into a silent appeal against indifference.

Orangutans are among the most endangered great apes in the world. Due to massive deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia — especially for palm oil plantations — they are rapidly losing their natural habitat. Many animals die from forest fires, poaching, and starvation caused by the destruction of their ecosystem. The painting reflects this existential threat while raising questions about human responsibility, compassion, and coexistence.

The combination of expressive painting, emotional intensity, and social commentary gives the artwork a powerful and immediate presence. The work does not demand a quick interpretation — it demands confrontation.

The painting is created with high-quality professional acrylic paints on canvas stretched over a wooden frame and is ready to hang.
Materials: acrylic, graphite, and glossy varnish for protection against environmental influences.

Materials used:

Gesso, Acrylic, graphite, varnish
