No. 3 Eyes Closed (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Mieke van Os

30 x 30 x 2cm (unframed)

£520.29

Painting portraits – some people love nothing more. All things considered, it’s not really my thing, even though it’s a serious genre within painting; one might even say it’s almost a must – for me too, and that’s why I’ve set myself a task. A carefully thought-out plan, with a ‘set of requirements’. The Eyes Closed series consists of six portraits, four of which measure 30 x 30 cm, one 40 x 40 cm and one 70 x 50 cm. Each portrait features closed or downcast eyes and a profile view. Each portrait conveys a different emotional state. Each portrait is created using a different material, a different style and a different technique.

Anyone who delves into portraits develops a keen eye for the genre within art history and finds that they start to view exhibitions differently. How do photographers and sculptors approach it? How many colour schemes are there for skin tones? How do I achieve texture in skin and hair? In short: here too, the rule applies that when you commit to it, there’s a whole world to discover.
A discount can be arranged when purchasing multiple works.
Each work stands on its own, yet together they form a coherent whole.
Tip: the series of portraits Eyes Closed nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 all have the same dimensions and background, meaning they can be mounted as a four-part series on an anthracite-coloured backing board and then framed in a 70 (h) x 70 (w) x 4 (d) cm or 30 (h) x 120 (w) x 4 (d) cm.

Materials used:

Alcohol ink, Pan Pastel, Old Masters donkergrijze gesso, oil stick
