Original artwork description
Pale blue mushrooms glow like lanterns on the floor of a night forest, while behind the black trunks the sky burns hot pink and magenta, in this fantasy landscape painted in an expressionist, almost neon palette. The trees carry crowns of electric blue and lilac foliage dabbed in thick, sparkling touches, and the undergrowth around the mushrooms is built from the same cool light, so the whole scene seems lit from within rather than from above.
Neon Forest Dreams belongs to my Nocturne in Oil series, a group of night paintings where darkness is never empty but full of colour. This one is the most playful of the series. It borrows the mood of a fairy tale and the glow of a blacklight poster, and turns them into a fully painted oil landscape you can get lost in.
The canvas is 80 x 60 cm (about 31.5 x 23.6 inches) in landscape format. It is a natural fit for a bedroom, a teenager's room, a gaming or music room, a creative studio or any space that wants a bold splash of pink and blue, and it looks especially striking on a dark or charcoal wall where the glowing shapes come forward.
It is painted in oil on stretched cotton canvas. The magenta sky is laid in smooth blended layers, the trunks in long dark strokes, and the foliage and undergrowth in dense stippled dabs of blue, violet and white that catch real light and give the surface a soft sparkle.
