I had always heard wonderful things about Rockport and Gloucester, but had never seen them for myself. So in the fall of 2019, we made a road trip from the Midwest all the way to Maine. As someone who loves painting fishing boats and anything connected to the working waterfront, this harbor scene immediately drew me in.

I began the watercolor early in the morning, just as the fishermen were preparing to cast off. Seagulls circled overhead, excited for the promise of breakfast, and the strong morning light poured across the sides of the buildings, the piers, and even the birds themselves. That brilliant contrast of light and shadow—paired with the quiet bustle of the docks—was what compelled me to paint this piece.

The artwork is framed in a dark wooden frame with warm undertones and arrives ready to hang on your wall.

Please note: the frame pictured is an example. If it becomes unavailable, a similar frame of comparable quality will be selected to complement the artwork.
