ABOUT THE ART WORK
Amalfi is more than a destination. For many of us, it exists somewhere between a memory and a dream.
This original oil painting of the Amalfi Coast, Italy, is part of my ongoing exploration of places that remain with us long after a journey ends—or live in our imagination long before we arrive.
I was interested not in creating a literal view of Amalfi, but in capturing the emotional memory of a Mediterranean evening: the town descending toward the sea, the warmth beginning to glow from its windows, and the last light transforming the sky into color.
Working in a contemporary impressionist style, I allowed the recognizable architecture of Amalfi to gradually dissolve into expressive brushwork, luminous color, and atmosphere. The dramatic sky becomes almost abstract, shifting the painting away from a representation of a destination toward the feeling of remembering it.
For someone who has visited the Amalfi Coast, the painting may evoke a personal journey—a summer evening, a honeymoon, a walk through the town, or simply the feeling of looking at the Mediterranean and wishing the moment could last longer. For someone who has never been there, it can represent something different: anticipation, escape, and the dream of a journey still to come.
This relationship between place, memory, and dream is at the center of my current work. I paint recognizable destinations not as postcards, but as emotional landscapes—places transformed by the way we remember them and imagine returning to them.
