ABOUT THE ART WORK
Light Within Avakas Gorge captures a secluded moment inside one of Cyprus’s most dramatic natural landscapes.
Rather than portraying the gorge as a monumental view, I was drawn to the intimacy of the place — sunlight filtering through dense vegetation, touching the rocks and breaking into reflections across the shallow water. Warm ochres, burnt orange and flashes of yellow meet cooler greens, blues and violets, creating a rich movement of colour through the composition.
Painted with expressive, textured brushwork, the landscape gradually moves away from literal description. Rocks, branches, water and reflected light become fragments of colour and rhythm, preserving the sensation of standing inside the gorge rather than simply recording its appearance.
This painting continues my exploration of places encountered through travel — landscapes remembered through atmosphere, colour and light. Here, Avakas Gorge becomes a quiet Mediterranean sanctuary, hidden from the open brightness of Cyprus, where light finds its way through stone and vegetation and transforms the landscape for a moment.
