Les Roches et Calanques (2026) Original Oil Painting by Julia Swaby

£6,500

This XL oil painting was inspired by a recent trip to Provence and the beautiful rocks there as well as the stunning gorges. In Cassis, one can see the orange and ochre cliffs of Cap Canaille, which are portrayed not only in colour in this painting but also in texture, which has been achieved here using a specialist fibre material. If you run your fingers over the canvas, you can feel an almost stone like surface.
Trailing across the work are floating renditions of the water in Les Calanques, the crystal quality of it abstracted - the aim was to represent the coolness of it in contrast to the rock. Olive swathes near the top are suggestions of the pines and other trees adorning the gorges.
This work is really a homage to the beauty of both creation and the divine Creator.
***PLEASE NOTE:
The very large size of this work means it must be sent rolled unless it is being delivered or collected close to my art gallery in Sussex.
