Artist's description:

"It was a night so beautiful that your soul seemed hardly able to bear the prison of the body." ~W. Somerset Maugham

This piece is inspired by reflections on times when you just need to turn your back on the world for a moment. The figure here is straddling a chair, she is nude, but for her stockings, her vulnerability clear but she is powerfully self reliant and eventually will recover and return with greater strength. The blues create a deep, emotional mood while bright light ochres contrast to highlight her inner strength.
