Original artwork description
This is a plein air study from the Austrian town of Bregenz. During my stay, the town was filled with posters featuring photographs of performances by Günter Brus, an Austrian artist and a key figure of Viennese Actionism. At the same time, an exhibition of his work was on view at a local museum. One of these posters merged with the urban landscape in a particularly painterly and unusual way, and I captured this motif.
The study is executed with a limited colour palette, dominated by warm tones, in an expressionist manner. The landscape surrounding the poster feels tense and restless, especially the sky. The state of nature is unsettled, yet the colours remain harmonious. Within the composition, the poster transforms into a plastic object within the landscape.
