On moonless nights,
deep in the forest,
the sprites dance around the fire.

They sway,
in time
with the rhythm of the wind,
the rhythm of their innards,
in a devilish choreography.

The infernal circle goes on
until the day begins to bloom.

Then, each to their own,
they scatter,
like jaunty butterflies,
leaving behind them
the shivering ashes of the frozen dawn.

Unseen, unknown,
they do not dance for us
because we do not exist.

No threat,
no challenge,
do not hope to see them.

It is a show for no one.
