Original artwork description
I read a Larry Niven book in which the ageing character (fleeing the sunset by futuristic transport to lengthen his own birthday) arrives in a capital city and finds it impossible to distinguish it from any other city in the world, all the restaurants, buildings, shops and people are the same. Living in a serially franchised world myself, the thought made me sad.
We're terrified to try something that might not match our expectations exactly, we've created a world of constant familiarity, a buffet of grey for every sense. The worst part is, the industrial nature of these enormously unextraordinary brands means we will have squashed the uniquely beautiful world that was always at our fingertips.
We're the first ones into the mine of obsessive, industrial consumption, soon we may be lying at the bottom of our cages.
Framed in an up-cycled, all wooden frame (no chip board or MDF here!)
