THE IDOL (2016) Bronze sculpture by Anton Tische

The idol is a statue of a fat sphinx with a latex mask covering half of its head and a spiked collar around its neck. It serves as a reminder of the eternal struggle between good and evil within every mind and the physical manifestation of decisions over time. Just as tree rings reveal its age, each wrinkle on the idol's skin reflects its life experience. The idol sits peacefully with closed eyes, immersed in thought. The smooth, shiny latex mask contrasts with the heavy wrinkles of its life experience, representing the dark side of its personality. The idol does not resist this side but accepts it, forming a harmony of dark and light aspects in a unified whole.
