(Have You Already) Forgot My Name (2020)Oil painting
by Don Keene
£2,974.76
Original artwork description
In this painting a male and a female figure are arranged in a seated tableau, surrounded by uninvited yet interested onlookers as they work out an issue with which they both seem intimately involved. Whether a discussion, an argument or an affair of greater urgency, their shared nakedness and the physical closeness of their entanglement suggests matters of the heart are at work, with the real possibility that the two partners are not seeing eye to eye, and one, at least, will likely end up hurt, and probably shunned. This work is part of my ongoing series examining the struggle of being human.
Influences, among others, include Max Beckmann, Edvard Munch, Bob Thompson, George McNeil, Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Francesco Clemente, R.B. Kitaj and Willem de Kooning.
