Original artwork description:

There is no longer anyone alive who faught in the horror of those fields in Flanders during the First World War and the family threads which tie myself, like so many others to that generation grow ever weaker as each year passes.

It may be that the commemorations which have been taking place recently in recognition of the 100 years since the Great War will be the last of any major significance. And yet the war has influenced, however indirectly, each and every one of us and the world in which we now live.

I have created a series of mixed media paintings with this in mind. Paper collage - which maybe a photograph, letters or copies of war records and memorials - is overlaid with layers of oil paint indicitive of the passing years, and yet the memories and consequences of the war are forever woven into the walls and lives of those living within.

The painting has some texture to it and when viewed from an angle the edges of the paper collage are visible in places. This is intentional and adds depth and interest to the composition. The frame shown is for illustration purposes only; another of the photos shows other paintings in this series. (PLEASE NOTE: this listing is for one unframed painting).

I ship internationally using an insured, tracked and signed for service. Please note that payment of import duty/tax is the responsibility of the buyer.

Materials used:

paper, oil paint
