I love painting beaches, like the beginning of summer. Between light and shadow this young lady is sitting on the beach among other people; the composition balances abstraction and figuration, inviting the viewer into an atmosphere of warmth, salt air and sun. This painting offers the sensation of a sunlight afternoon through layered pastel tones and fluid silhouettes. I played with scale, mouvement of bodies and bold areas of color to create a dreamlike composition. The focus in on the elegant lady with her green hat and she’s the only one quiet of the scene, the others appear both present and allusive. With an original spatial rhythm, I really enjoyed working on this one!
