ORIGINAL SAVA DRAGANOV ARTWORK !!!

2023, "Ek Chuaj" - wood wall sculpture

This original oak and ash wood wall mask is one of the latest elaborate carving artworks of the talented contemporary Bulgarian professional sculptor Sava Draganov, deeply inspired by postmodernism, cubism and folk art. It is one extraordinary wood masterpiece and exquisite home wall décor.

The ancient Mayans worshipped different gods and goddesses, who were playing an important role in all aspects of life. Ek Chuaj, the "black war chief" was the adventurous patron god of warriors and merchants. He was the supreme merchant deity and god of cacao. Many Mayan gods had a dual nature reflecting very different aspects of society, and Ek Chuaj's probably the best example of this. While he was the god of merchants and cacao, he was the god of war, chaos, and destruction too. His benevolent side was represented by a man with a large cane that worked as a lance and carrying various items on his back. His warrior side always appeared fighting and defeating enemies or, on the contrary, being defeated by other warrior gods.
