Cumulus 2 is a small, 6 x 8 inches oil study on gesso panel.

Christopher Witchall’s long fascination with clouds and the sky is no doubt influenced by its predominance of the fen landscape that surrounds his home in Cambridgeshire. He has been photographing clouds for a number of years and amassed hundreds of images. “When I started out photographing clouds, I had no real idea of what I was going to do with them. Strangely, for a painter, It didn't occur to me to make paintings with them. I thought of them as more of a photographic project.”

The artist’s unsentimental approach to his subjects combine two great passions - a love of traditional painting techniques and a fascination with the photographic image. The result of this are paintings that are both painterly and highly realistic.
Cumulus 2 is painted on a deep edge cradled panel, so there is no need for framing and can be hung immediately. It is signed on the back and supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
