Original artwork description
I love to capture the unique, personal encounters that happen inside galleries, freezing a moment where a viewer becomes completely lost in a historic masterpiece. This particular painting, Cross Black and Red, captures a modern woman deeply engaged before an iconic supremacist work by Kazimir Malevich.
This theme is close to my heart. I once had the immense privilege of giving a live painting demonstration during a major Malevich exhibition at the Drents Museum, where I worked right next to his original masterpieces, completely surrounded by his powerful vision—and exceptionally careful not to splat any paint around!
Malevich famously stripped away all literal representation to focus entirely on pure artistic feeling, using bold geometric forms to create a visual language that feels both deeply spiritual and monumentally simple. I'm guessing my figure feels that too.
