This portrait of Mila was created as a special commission for her owner, who loves cats deeply and shares a particularly tender bond with this one. Mila was adopted from a shelter, and over time became not simply a pet, but a beloved companion — cherished with the same protective love and emotional closeness one might feel for a child.

Mila has a cataract in one eye, which makes her presence even more touching and unique. In this portrait, I was asked to show both sides of her nature: her soft, affectionate gentleness, and at the same time her playful, slightly mischievous spirit. I wanted the drawing to feel intimate and alive — calm in tone, but full of character in the pose, the turned head, and the long, elegant stretch of the body.

Drawn in coloured pencil on toned paper, the warm surface becomes part of the image itself, allowing the white highlights, soft greys and muted ginger accents to glow naturally.

A one-of-a-kind small original that would suit a collector of animal portraits, cat lovers, or anyone drawn to quiet, characterful works on paper.

Medium: Coloured pencil on toned paper
Size: 20 × 20 cm (approx. 7.9 × 7.9 in)
