Chestnut; Seeds series (2025) Original Watercolour by Anna Belousova

20 x 20 x 0.2cm (unframed) / 5 x 5cm (actual image size)

£214.96

This work is part of the series Seeds, inspired by plant forms, germination, and latent biological force. I am interested in the concentrated vitality contained within seeds and in searching for its resonance within my own body and movements.

This small-scale watercolor combines bodily and organic forms, creating an ambiguous image suspended between seed, flower, wound, and eye. Rather than depicting a recognizable organism, the work traces a state of transformation where human and plant-like structures begin to merge.

Painted in diluted red and dark pigments, the image appears both fragile and intense — as if something were simultaneously opening and protecting itself. Isolated within a large empty space, the form acquires a heightened sense of vulnerability and concentration.

The work approaches the body not as a fixed identity, but as a porous and shifting condition shaped by forces of growth, exposure, and metamorphosis.
