Carcassonne 02 (2025) Photograph by Daniel Fontaine

63.5 x 43.2 x 0.17cm (unframed) / 59.5 x 33.5cm (actual image size)

£262.24

This photograph was taken during my visit to the fortified city of Carcassonne in the summer of 2025. It was the height of the tourist season, and the streets were so crowded that I decided to point my camera upward, focusing instead on the windows and rooftops, which were bathed in beautiful, high-contrast light.

A low-angle, sepia-toned photograph captures the textured facade of an old building. Two windows are visible: one with a metal grille, and another with open wooden shutters revealing blinds behind. Dramatic shadows cast by the roofline and a decorative railing fall across the textured wall, creating a sense of depth and mystery. The overall mood is vintage and slightly melancholic, with the rough texture of the stucco and the play of light and shadow adding to the aged aesthetic.

Printed on 100% cotton paper—free of acid and optical brighteners (Fine Art print on Red River Palo Duro Softgloss Rag 315 gsm paper) using Epson pigment inks. The paper measures 25 in x 17 in, and the image measures 23.4 in x 13.2 in. Consequently, the image is surrounded by a margin.
