Burnt Horizon (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Anna Shelvey

Burnt Horizon is an original abstract acrylic painting inspired by the burnt orange skies that settle over the Thanet coastline at dusk. Living and working on the Kent coast means I'm constantly noticing how quickly the light changes & how the same view can feel completely different from one evening to the next.

Built through multiple layers of acrylic paint, the composition gradually evolved into a quiet horizon where warm light meets deep water. Rather than recreating a specific location, the painting captures the atmosphere and feeling of standing by the sea as daylight begins to fade. Fine vertical marks along the skyline subtly reference the offshore wind farms visible from the Kent coast. They aren't immediately obvious, encouraging the viewer to spend time with the painting and discover new details.

The contrast between rich burnt orange, deep blues and charcoal tones creates a sense of calm while reflecting the shifting light, colour & space that continue to inspire my work..
