£329.52

Acrylic on board, 15cm x 21cm

This is probably as minimalist as I get. A marble hand places marble flowers on a marble tomb.

Continuing with a series of hands for my poste-mortem series of works, I thought this empty hand described one facet of loss quite well. When we lose someone some habits remain, whether it’s setting the table for two or turning over to say goodnight, there’s a them-shaped hole in the day to day.

I’ve never been one to skimp on colour, but it felt especially important to not fall into the cliché muting of colours when approaching death as a subject. If someone was bright in their life, technicolour memories of them will always play for you while you go through your own.
