Original artwork description
“Body as language II” is an original abstract artwork developed from my ongoing exploration of body painting, calligraphy and the body as a form of visual communication.
The work originates from a body-painting project created in Barcelona in collaboration with LGBTQ+ Assoc. FAR, involving three participants whose bodies became living surfaces for colour, movement and expression. Through painted gestures and abstract calligraphic marks, the project explored how the body can communicate identity and emotion beyond spoken language.
This canvas carries that experience into a different form. Gestures that once existed on the human body are reinterpreted through layers of black, blue, magenta and grey marks on a light background. The composition brings together bold, structured strokes and more delicate, fluid traces, creating a dialogue between presence and absence, density and openness, control and spontaneity.
The marks do not belong to any existing alphabet and are not intended to be read or translated. They form a personal visual language in which meaning emerges through rhythm, movement and the viewer's own emotional response.
The light background gives this work a different atmosphere from its darker counterpart in the Bodies Language series. Where one explores the relationship between gesture and darkness, this piece allows the marks to emerge, overlap and breathe against an open surface. Together, the two works explore contrasting expressions of the same idea: the body as a place where identity, emotion and communication take shape.
For me, the body was the first canvas. Painting became a way to extend that experience beyond the skin, preserving its gestures in a new and lasting form.
This is a unique, original artwork, created as part of an evolving series exploring the relationship between the body, identity and an invented visual language.
