Before my eyes (2024) Original Acrylic Painting by Paul Ward

Another trip to Loyasse cemetery in Lyon has given birth to a third painting in a series of hands.

Sometimes the best thing we can do for each other is to be present. Eyelids flutter and close for one last time, a hand slips off the bed as its fingers, masters of a thousand skills, relax and point towards the floor.

Every print from the wood block that I have been using to create each background is as unique as a fingerprint. As the last layer of paint dries, wrinkles and waves form, ready to impress themselves on the new painting.
