The sculptural composition is an original replica of the four horses of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, which were brought there after the Fourth Crusade. Creating replicas has its advantages, but it is also a difficult and extremely responsible task. For me, this project was, among other things, a kind of “time machine” that transported me back to the era of Lysippos.
The creation of this work took me more than a year. I chose bronze in order to create the impression of a gilded surface. My work is a tribute to the genius of Lysippos, who worked for Alexander the Great, and to the art of antiquity. Each horse in the composition is unique, yet harmoniously integrated into the overall arrangement. Every detail has been meticulously crafted according to the original, preserving the spirit of its historical era. The pedestals are made of black granite with a matte finish and a thickness of 3 centimeters.
