Original artwork description
This drawing comes from memory of family trips to the North Norfolk coast, staying with friends in Binham and spending time at Cley beach and Wells-next-the-Sea. The dunes there are a particular kind of landscape: steep, unstable, covered in marram grass that cuts at your hands, and then suddenly you are at the top and the whole coastline opens out in front of you. We spent a lot of time there with the kids, running through the sand. This drawing tries to hold onto that experience of the dune face itself, the steep diagonal, the scratchy grass, the sense of effort before the view. The pencil marks here were made quickly and with some pressure.
