As the City Appears (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Svitlana Zezekalo

40 x 50 x 2cm (unframed)

£339.52

As the City Appears captures the moment when an old city slowly emerges from shadow. A dark archway opens onto a quiet passage of steps, fragmented façades and distant rooftops.
The painting draws on the atmosphere of old towns along the Adriatic coast - narrow passages, stone architecture, arches and the quiet light of evening. Rather than depicting a specific location, it reconstructs a place through memory: familiar architectural fragments appear, disappear and shift between recognition and abstraction.
A restrained, almost monochromatic palette of black, dusty rose and muted earthy tones creates a calm, contemplative atmosphere. Expressive layers of acrylic and oil pastel give the surface depth while preserving the fragmented character of the architecture.
Part of the Architecture of Memory series, this original contemporary painting combines architectural structure with expressive abstraction. Its compact 40 × 50 cm format and understated palette make it easy to integrate into contemporary interiors, particularly Mediterranean-inspired, minimalist and modern spaces.

Materials used:

acrylic on canvas, oil pastel, acrylic matte protective varnish
