Alqantara 1 marked a new departure in my work. Named after a street in Gaza City, it depicts an imagined view — a lone minaret still standing amid destruction. This painting began my exploration of the single tower or minaret as a survivor of a ruined city, a recurring symbol of hope, endurance, and renewal.
I was struck by how a structure that endures when everything else has fallen can take on a powerful, human meaning — a quiet emblem of resilience. Alqantara reflects on that idea: that even in devastation, something remains upright, holding space for remembrance and the possibility of rebuilding.
