Across the Dark Water (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Svitlana Zezekalo

80 x 60 x 0.1cm (unframed)

£506.76

Across the Dark Water is a contemporary night seascape from my Architecture of Memory series.
Two boats rest on the dark water, framed by fragments of waterfront architecture in the foreground. Across the bay, a distant coastal town appears through scattered lights and reflections, while much of the canvas remains almost entirely black.
The composition is built around distance and stillness. Rather than describing every detail of the harbour, I allow large areas of the black ground to remain visible, using darkness to create the water, the night sky and the space separating the viewer from the opposite shore.
Painted in acrylic on black canvas, the work combines expressive brushwork with recognizable boats and architectural forms. Reflections dissolve into the dark surface of the water, while the illuminated boat in the foreground becomes the central point of the composition.
The painting was inspired by the atmosphere of Mediterranean coastal towns at night — when familiar places become reduced to silhouettes, fragments of architecture and light across the water.
Original contemporary painting. Acrylic on black canvas.
