Artworks by Zhao Yongchang 赵永昌

Artist Biography
Zhao Yongchang
A graduate of the China Academy of Art, Zhao Yongchang is an independent artist and creator of contemporary Chinese literati sculpture. He is a member of the Zhejiang Sculptors Association and the Zhejiang Sculpture & Public Art Society.
His creative practice centers on metal media, primarily bronze. Departing from the narrative conventions of traditional mythology, his work is rooted in the aesthetic system of Chinese literati, weaving the spiritual ethos of youth into the moral character of traditional scholars.
His works feature restrained, harmonious forms and a freehand, understated artistic language. Taking the symbiosis of young figures and mythical auspicious beasts as the core visual motif, he explores individual spiritual pursuit and the continuity of the contemporary literati spirit through subdued, gentle formal expression.
Zhao has held solo exhibitions in multiple regions, and his works have been selected for numerous professional exhibitions across China. In 2022, recommended by a French curator, his creations were featured in European art magazines on multiple occasions. In 2023, he was included in the industry's annual list of most anticipated young artists, attracting attention from art media and galleries both domestically and internationally. A large number of his works are held in private and institutional collections worldwide. Selected Awards
