Event: Liminal Ties Unveiled
Dates: 2 Oct 2021 - 10 Oct 2021
This lovely group exhibition was curated by Rita Carta-Manias of Island2Island Art and showed pieces relating to the cultural and environmental issues affecting islands globally. The three pieces I had submitted were about the threats to marine life and rising water levels. The curator, Rita and myself also collaborated in a fundraiser to assist Wildlife Sense, the turtle charity based in Kefalonia. We raised £320 to help the turtle volunteers with their monitoring program to ensure the as many hatchlings as possible reach the sea.

Biography
I've just been awarded SAA Professional Artist of the Year 2018 in two categories: Animals and Wildlife and Seascapes & Waterscenes!
I was thrilled to exhibit at the Mall Galleries in April 2018 with the David Shepherd Wildlife AOY18 Finalists ("Grunt on the Reef" acrylic painting.
In 2017, my cityscape, "London Transport", was Highly Commended by the Artist Magazine Artist of the Year judges.
This year, my acrylic portrait, "Moody Teen" was awarded Commended by the SAA Artist of the Year 2017 judges and my painting was exhibited with the winners exhibition at SAA HQ and the NEC in Birmingham.
I was thrilled to be amongst 50 finalists of 'Artists & Illustrators' Artist of the Year, exhibiting in January 2017, as my debut appearance at the Mall Galleries, London W1, with my painting River in the Reeds II.
Two of my paintings won awards from the SAA, 2016: Professional Artist of the Year for 'Teasels at Hyde Hall', and Best Professional Wildlife & Animal category for my cat painting, 'Sylvesta'.
My work is inspired by connecting with nature, both in my tumbling, tropical garden in Jamaica, on the coral reefs and in the English countryside, where I currently reside. I find the play of light across a subject quite hypnotic. I paint in watercolors and acrylics, separately and together, very often adding mixed media and organic materials to create texture or imprint patterns. I work from life and from my own photographs. The paintings I like best are the ones that have some sense of mystery, ambiguity and atmosphere. I constantly strive to say more by doing less. When I am connecting with nature, I feel calm and uplifted and I hope to communicate that feeling through my paintings. At the same time, I aim to raise awareness of our natural environment, especially the ocean and wetlands, and its need of our protection, through conscious living.
