Biography
Lotte Thuenker’s non-figurative, perfectly crafted sculptures are a combination of surfaces and lines. She explores the balance between calm and movement, lightness and mass. Her works in carrara marble, alabaster, onyx and bronze show surprising forms from different angles. Objects from nature such as birds, shells or marine animals dissolve into the abstract.
Her sculptures are created in Italy, close to the Carrara quarries near Pisa. She has been exhibiting since the 90s in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Her works are represented in private and public collections in Germany, the Netherlands, Tunisia, the US and Hong Kong.
Many of her works sit on a single point – you can turn them with a fingertip, you can move them, and they come back into balance. Lotte Thuenker derives this sense of statics from her time as an architect.
