Biography
Mari Skakun was born in 1987 in Minsk, Belarus, and is of Franco-Belarusian descent. Since 2022, she has been living and working in France, in Rambouillet.
Having drawn since childhood and with an academic background in art, Mari long saw painting as a personal practice. After studying art therapy, she discovered how art could become a source of strength and clarity. From that moment, painting took a central place in her life.
She creates large-scale works in the style of abstract neo-expressionism. Her art is built on the subtle psycho-emotional experience. The works arise from responses to music, travel, and sensory impressions. These impulses combine into abstract metaphorical landscapes—reflections of an inner space full of movement and sensations.
Mari works intuitively, without preliminary sketches, following the impulse directly. She uses mixed media: oil, acrylic, and wax pastel. The color palette is inspired by light, reflections, and the tones of nature. The forms are fluid, pliable, and full of movement—capturing the breath of the body and feminine energy. Her paintings become a mirror—a space where the viewer can feel, remember, and experience their own emotions.
Collections
Maria’s works are in private collections in France, the USA, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Belarus, India, Sri Lanka, and Israel.
