About Lorraine Brown

Biography

My art practice is a fusion of painting, collage and photography, inspired by the textures and stories found in weathered buildings, architecture and the plants and foliage that grow alongside them.

In the studio, I explore these themes through layered compositions, combining paint and mark-making with a variety of collage materials, including old book pages, handwritten letters and my own photographic prints. I'm drawn to the freedom of mixed media, embracing the interplay between abstraction and figurative elements to create depth and intrigue.

At its core, my work is about connection - between self and surroundings, past and present, the seen and unseen. Through my art, I hope to share that connection with others.

Since graduating in Fine Art at ARU in 2012, I have participated in Cambridge Open Studios and exhibited regularly with Cambridge Drawing Society and local galleries.

In 2016 I was commissioned by Wetherspoons to create two large artworks for a new premises in Huntingdon. In 2020 three of my artworks were selected for the National ING Discerning Eye Exhibition.
