About Lorie Schackmann

Biography

Lorie has been exhibiting her bold figurative oils on canvas since 1990. Her work is recognized for its rich color, symbolic female figures, and tropical narratives. The figurative canvases have the lyricism of Matisse and the monumentality of Henry Moore. Her large sensuous bodies, abstracted and minimal, are unconstrained by the defining characteristics of personality. Her mediums are oil paint, oil pastel, and watercolor. Lorie received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota/Morris with a double major in Studio Art and Art History. She continued her B.F.A. studies in painting at St. Cloud State University. Workshops in Cuernavaca and Baja Mexico introduced her to the Mexican muralists, the rich use of cultural iconography in folk art, and cemented her love of travel. Love of the human figure dominates her work with its' bold simplicity and decisive line. Lorie's art has been represented by galleries in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Telluride. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and is collected nationally and internationally.
