Lizzie Butler's love of landscapes and big open skies began as a child in the wide open fields of Lincolnshire. Artist parents - an architect father, who etched at every opportunity, and fashion designer & colourist mother - helped nurture the painter's work.
Grounded in figurative landscape oil painting and life drawing, Lizzie Butler's work today is expressive and semi abstract. She often begins her landscape pieces 'en plein air', then moves to her London studio, sometimes working from photographs taken in the landscape. Butler's depth of field and linear hand convey light, silence and energy with expressive hues and tones. The results are an immersive fusion of land, water and open sky.
Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints.
Lizzie Butler has exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London and at several London galleries. She has also exhibited internationally, with oil paintings shown in Washington USA, and her etchings exhibited in Japan.
Her work can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further pieces and place commissions.
If you have an idea that you would like to discuss, or a favourite sky view that you would like as an artwork to hang in your home, please do get in touch. Lizzie has completed many commissions in various sizes.
