About Joanne Spencer

  • Biography
I retired after 30 years as a police officer in February 2017 and wanted to explore the creative side of my nature. I started with small scale lino prints and paintings in a makeshift studio that mostly involved the dining room table. I initially posted my work on a personal Facebook site and was pleasantly surprised when people started to ask where they could buy them. The content of my printing and painting, has matured and improved as I have continued to develop my own personal style. Initially I was inspired by architecture, some of the buildings and monuments in Wiltshire are ideal for Lino printing, my inspiration now comes from a variety of influences including landscape and nature. I love the process of working out how to layer the colours and where to carve the Lino to achieve the image I want to with the colours I have available, and to decide if I would be better to work light to dark, dark to light or to mix it all up. I do a lot of my own sales and it is a delight to see people stop and look at my art, then engage in conversation asking about the process, a lot of my work is local architecture and people like to see if they know where the place is. I started selling through local shops and online outlets last year and I now feel that the time is right for me to move onto a more professional art based site in order to access a wider market.
