About Hanna Bell

Biography

Artist Statement

I am a vegan artist exploring the profound sentience of non-human animals & the emotional complexities of the human-animal relationship. Based in Aylesford, Kent I predominantly paint abstract compositions that function as vibrant, symbolic dialogues, often juxtaposed with the female nude to represent vulnerability and raw existence. I use discordant and complementary colours to achieve 'vibration' and tension on the canvas. My paintings move past mere representation, aiming to dismantle the perceived borders of speciesism and highlight the shared experience of life. I believe that artists’ have a responsibility in their story telling to reveal that which is hidden; unspoken, unseen and uncomfortable. Animal rights is one such story.

Past corporate Luxury Interior Design Clients

Two of my abstract paintings (“Birds Watching” & “Moving Away From Convention (commissioned)” were purchased by Charu Ghandi (Elicyon) for the prestigious Thierry Despont “60 Curzon” Art Deco building in London’s Mayfair.

More recently, a corporate client selected 8 abstract paintings: purchased for the 10 St. Bride St project near Fleet Street London.

Please note: that for peace of mind we are able to supply by-spoke wooden shipping crates for a additional fee

My Artist Practice

My central practice is life painting. I have studied the human figure for over 30 years. I develop life studies into final paintings in my studio; changing the composition & adding context to explore a theme or particular idea in a painting. When I combine the figurative with the abstract within the same painting I will use colour washes to unify the compositional elements. Sometimes I use mixed media. Colour & symbolism is my chosen means of emotional expression. Many of my works incorporate abstraction. I am inspired by what I see around me & artists like Lou Ros, Adrian Ghenie, Pablo Picasso & Pierre Bonnard.

My artist materials are currently being sourced as vegan friendly. Daler Rowney system 3 and Windsor and Newton paints confirm to vegan requirements.

Abstract painting commissions for commercial and corporate clients welcomed.
