About Elena Lykhodid

Biography

Art is my heritage and my lifelong companion. Born into a family of muralists and painters, I developed a visual language long before I found my own voice. My early musical education became the cornerstone of my practice, allowing me to translate rhythm and melody into the vibrant "color harmonies" that define my work today.

With over 20 years of professional practice, my artistic journey has been one of constant evolution and profound transition. Having lived and worked in Ukraine, Sweden, and now Slovakia, I have experienced life as a series of adaptations. This personal history of movement directly influenced my mastery of watercolor. I see this medium as a reflection of life itself: fluid, transparent, and unpredictable. Just as I have navigated new borders, the paint flows on paper, demanding a delicate balance between focused control and the courage to let go.

My work explores the "quiet" human presence within these shifting environments. Whether through traditional oil, delicate pastels, or innovative wool collages, I focus on how we carry our inner silence and identity through changing landscapes. My background in icon painting and monumental murals adds a layer of spiritual depth and structural precision to my contemporary pieces.

Today my works are in private collections in Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Australia, Sweden and Europe. I actively participate in local and international art exhibitions.

Through my art and my teaching, I continue to explore the intricate dialogue between the world around us and the world within.
